EPISODE 2

Oh yeah, some worldbuilding thoughts, I guess? I figure in this universe, it operates almost exactly the same as the show in terms how how the sects are set up and how the wuxia world politics and worldbuilding operate, with the addition of Pokemon as another part of their arsenal of fighting techniques. "Normal" commoners don't really utilise Pokemon - they're viewed as too capricious or risky for unskilled and untrained people to approach. Hence, if you have a Pokemon with you, even if you're not actively participating in combat (e.g. you could be part of a healer sect, or rely on Pokemon for heavy gruntwork) at the very least you would be considered skilled enough to tame one of them. There *are* "wild" Pokemon around like in the Pokeverse, but generally are found out of habitable areas away from towns and villages. Civilization is set up in such away to protect commoners from the threat of wild Pokemon, e.g. there are services by trained personnel to escort commoners through the wilderness, and there are patrols around the fringes of towns and cities for this reason.

In battles, it's considered perfectly kosher to target both the Pokemon and the trainer. After all, Pokemon are regarded as just another tool in your arsenal of techniques, and the stronger they are, the more powerful you will be as a martial artist. Some martial artists fashion their fighting techniques around their Pokemon's type; some use them to augment and complement their skills. However, as part of the norms of the jianghu, one should never target a non-combatant with your Pokemon - it's considered greatly dishonorable and cowardly.

Generally, one would be bestowed their first Pokemon by their master at a young age, and Pokemon would be bonded with you for the duration of your lifespan (I imagine most Pokemon have similar lifespans as humans). For this reason, it's not generally accepted to have more than one Pokemon partner at once. Evolving your Pokemon follows similar rules as the gameverse - except I guess evolving via trade doesn't exist here.

Old Boatman Li showed up, whooped major ass, and promptly kicked the bucket. He needs a similarly weird but cool Pokemon to keep up with him.

I'm going to be very obvious and lame and make the Ghost Valley mooks all have ghost-type Pokemon with them. Just oodles of Gastly, Shuppet and Duskull.
